Layer Up Labs is one person, a few printers, and a long habit of making things that didn't exist before.
I'm Emmet. I got a 3D printer when I was twelve, and the first thing I designed on it was a fidget spinner in Tinkercad. It was not good.
What kept me going was the part that still gets me: you make a shape on a screen, and a few hours later you can hold it. That gap between the model and the object is where all the interesting problems live — wall thickness, orientation, where a part will fail under load, how to hide a seam.
Since then I've moved from Tinkercad into Blender and ZBrush, built and rebuilt an RC car out of printed parts, made a battleship in sections, and taken on commissioned modeling work for an independent game studio. Layer Up Labs is where that work lives.
I'm based in Lutz, Florida, and I'm headed toward mechanical engineering — which is, more or less, the same question at a larger scale.
